The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC Oyo State Command has neutralised one suspected bandit and arrested two others during a late night security operation in Iseyin area of Oyo State.
According to the Command Public Relations Officer, Samuel Opebiyi, the incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday following a distress call reporting suspected bandit and kidnapper activities in the Sawmill area of Iseyin. He explained that operatives of the Agro Rangers unit responded swiftly alongside other security agencies.
Opebiyi said the Agro Rangers team was the first to arrive at the scene due to its rapid tactical deployment. Upon arrival, the operatives encountered a group of five armed suspects who immediately opened fire on them, triggering a gun duel.
The NSCDC team responded strategically, leading to the neutralisation of one of the suspects at the scene while two others were apprehended alive. Two additional suspects reportedly escaped into the nearby forest with gunshot injuries, and a manhunt has been launched to capture them.
The operation was carried out without any casualties among NSCDC personnel. Security operatives recovered several items from the suspects, including a cartridge gun with live ammunition shells, two cutlasses, a metal rod and assorted charms.
Opebiyi confirmed that the arrested suspects and recovered exhibits have been handed over to the police for further investigation. The body of the neutralised suspect has also been deposited at a mortuary.
The State Commandant, Augustine Padonu, praised the professionalism and prompt response of the Agro Rangers operatives. He also urged residents of Oyo State to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing security efforts.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing as efforts intensify to track down the fleeing suspects and ensure safety across the region.
