The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has encouraged Nigerians to work together for a peaceful and fair country in 2026. He confidently stated that banditry will be overcome in the coming year and beyond.
He also urged everyone to put aside their differences, promote peace, and build unity within families, states, and across Nigeria. He stressed that the country can only grow in a peaceful environment.
Akpabio made these remarks during a prayer and fasting event held in honor of the Akpabio family at the odist Church Nigeria, Cathedral of Unity, Ukana Ikot Ntuen in Essien Udim Local Government Area.
According to a statement by his Special Assistant on Media and Communication, Anietie Ekong, Senator Akpabio said, “I want to wish all Nigerians a very prosperous and peaceful new year. I want to assure all Nigerians that the new year will usher in renewed peace in our country.”
Reflecting on the meaning of Christmas, Akpabio said, “For God so loved the world that He sent His only begotten son to be born as a man so as to redeem mankind. By the reason of the birth of Jesus Christ, Nigerians will be redeemed from banditry and insurgency in the new year and beyond.”
He called on all Nigerians, no matter their political views, to support President Bola Tinubu’s government in fighting banditry and insurgency. He added that with stronger partnerships with other countries, these problems will be defeated.
Akpabio also pointed out the important role families play in building peace and progress, saying that unity is the key to success.
In her speech, the Senate President’s wife, Her Excellency Mrs. Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, encouraged family members to support each other without selfishness, to forget personal differences, and to live in love.
Chief Ekan Akpabio, the head of the Greater Akpabio Family, asked family members to continue backing Senator Akpabio as a great representative of the family, Essien Udim LGA, and Akwa Ibom state.
He also called on family members who hold political offices to stay connected to their roots and focus on the well-being of their relatives.
