The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps FCT Command has deployed 4,000 personnel to ensure adequate security before, during and after the forthcoming Area Council election in the Federal Capital Territory.

The FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, disclosed this on Friday in Abuja while receiving delegates from the National Peace Committee. He assured residents and eligible voters of comprehensive protection against harassment, intimidation and any form of disruption by hoodlums.

Odumosu explained that NSCDC personnel assigned to election duties have undergone proper training by the Independent National Electoral Commission on electoral guidelines and procedures. He emphasised that the corps is fully prepared to guarantee a hitch free poll scheduled for February 21.

According to him, the role of the corps as a key stakeholder in election security begins well before voting day and will continue until results are officially announced. He noted that a series of strategic meetings had been held with Divisional Officers to ensure there is no operational compromise.

The commandant urged voters to come out en masse to exercise their civic responsibility without fear, assuring them of coordinated efforts among security agencies. He added that covert officers have been deployed to identified flashpoints and crisis prone polling centres to conduct surveillance ahead of the election.

Odumosu also appealed to parents and guardians to caution their wards against being used by unscrupulous politicians to foment trouble, stressing the need for peaceful conduct throughout the process.

In her remarks, Asabe Ndahi, Project Manager of the National Peace Committee, said the visit was to assess the evolving security landscape and explore collaboration ahead of the polls. She commended the NSCDC for its preparedness and pledged continued partnership to ensure a peaceful election.
