The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that he will once again work for the re election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027, insisting that his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, appears not to have learnt from past political decisions.

Wike made the remarks on Monday during a media parley in Abuja, where he defended his continued support for Tinubu and candidates aligned with the President.

According to him, his stance is neither new nor surprising, recalling that he had publicly declared his support for Tinubu ahead of the 2023 general election despite being a member of the PDP.

“I told you in 2023 that even as a PDP man, I was going to work for the President. That is what I did because I believe, and rightly so, that the other parties did not present serious candidates,” Wike said.

The minister maintained that his political position remains unced as the next election cycle approaches. He argued that the PDP failed to consult him when selecting its candidates, suggesting that internal party decisions contributed to its challenges.

“As a minister, my party did not consult me on the candidates they were going to present,” he stated.

Wike further explained that his support in 2027 would cut across party lines, provided the candidates are committed to Tinubu re election bid. He emphasised that party affiliation would not determine his political alignment.

“If they support Mr President, then of course I will pitch my tent with them,” he said.

Taking a swipe at the opposition, Wike insisted that the PDP had not reflected adequately on previous electoral outcomes, stressing that his alignment with Tinubu is driven by what he described as the quality of leadership and available political choices.
