Nokia announced two new deals that will boost its 5G business. The first is a five‑year extension with Telefónica Germany to upgrade and expand its 5G radio access network. The second is a deal to provide MantaRay SON technology to NTT DOCOMO for use across its multi‑vendor 5G network.

Under the Telefónica Germany contract, Nokia will deliver parts of its AirScale RAN range. The equipment includes Habrok Massive MIMO radios for the n78 band, Pandion multi‑band remote radio heads, and AirScale Radio small cell systems. These upgrades are set to improve network performance and capacity.

“We’re proud to extend our partnership with Telefónica Germany as we help them strengthen their performance, efficiency, and customer experience across their 5G network.” “With Nokia’s anyRAN software, AirScale baseband, and autonomous network platforms, Telefónica is also positioned for long-term competitiveness as the AI Supercycle takes hold.”

The company also highlighted MantaRay, its cloud‑ready network management and automation tool. MantaRay is positioned to make networks easier to run and to speed up routine quality improvements. NTT DOCOMO said the software’s open interfaces and AI features will help lower running costs and raise service quality.

“Nokia’s highly automated MantaRay SON solution will help us deliver an enhanced customer experience by accelerating our quality improvement cycles,” said Masafumi Masuda, GMr of Radio Access Design at NTT DOCOMO. “Its open interface capabilities will strengthen our O-RAN 5G commercial network, while its advanced AI features will reduce operational costs and further improve service quality.”

The agreements come at a time when Nokia’s mobile division faces tough market pressure. The new contracts give the company clear work to show its 5G offerings in live networks and to push further toward automated, multi‑vendor systems.
