As a response to a surge in violent incidents across parts of Nigeria, including recent kidnappings and ings in Kebbi, Kwara, and beyond, the Presidency has assured citizens that the federal government is fully aware of the escalating insecurity and is actively working to address it.
During a media interview on Monday, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, emphasized that the administration is not turning a blind eye to the distressing situation. “This government has never denied that Nigerians are being ed. We know we have problems, but we are making efforts to ensure that we stem all these things,” he said.
Onanuga also disclosed that President Tinubu is expected to address the nation soon, following the conclusion of ongoing high-level security deliberations. He noted that the President’s message would aim to reassure the public and outline concrete steps being taken to restore safety and order.
The government’s remarks come amid heightened public concern after a series of tragic events, including the abduction of schoolchildren in Kebbi and Niger States, and a deadly assault on worshippers in a Kwara church.
Meanwhile, 38 members of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Oke-Isegun Eruku, who were kidnapped in Kwara’s Ekiti local government area, were released on Sunday after five harrowing days in captivity.
