The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has criticised Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, describing his expected emergence as a leading figure in the Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum as a sign of deepening crisis within the opposition party.

In a statement issued by its spokesman, Seye Oladejo, the party said the situation reflects what it called the collapse of the Peoples Democratic Party. According to the APC, the PDP has struggled to maintain internal unity and discipline, raising concerns about its ability to effectively govern.

Oladejo stated that a wave of defections by PDP governors to the APC has weakened the opposition party’s structure and credibility. He argued that Makinde’s potential role as a dominant figure in the governors forum highlights what he described as a “one man structure” within the PDP.

The APC further criticised the PDP for lacking ideological direction and for being plagued by persistent internal conflicts. It said a political party unable to manage its internal affairs should not be trusted with leading a complex country like Nigeria.

At the same time, the Lagos APC expressed concern about the broader implications for Nigeria’s democracy, noting that a weakened opposition could undermine political balance. The party urged opposition groups to adopt strategies similar to those it used during its years in opposition, including discipline and long term planning.

Despite its criticism, the APC maintained that its primary focus remains on governance and strengthening democratic institutions. It also called on Nigerians to be wary of political platforms it described as unle and crisis ridden.

The statement concluded by stressing that the future of Nigeria’s politics lies with parties that demonstrate unity, vision, and the capacity to lead effectively.
