Kano Assembly Speaker, 21 Lawmakers Dump NNPP in Solidarity with Gov Yusuf

The Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jibril Ismail Falgore, alongside 21 other lawmakers, has resigned their membership from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano State.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Speaker’s spokesperson, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, who released the full list of lawmakers involved in the defection.

According to the statement, the legislators resigned from the NNPP to align with the political movement of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, pledging their continued loyalty and support to his administration.

“The Kano State House of Assembly has finally released the names of Honourable members who defected from NNPP in solidarity with His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Engr Abba Kabir Yusuf, while reaffirming their unwavering commitment and loyalty to his administration,” the statement read.

Those who defected include the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Jibril Ismail Falgore (Rogo); Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Bello Butu Butu (Tofa/Rimin Gado); Majority Leader, Hon. Lawan Hussain (Dala); Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Garba Shehu Fammar (Kibiya); Chief Whip, Hon. Muddasir Ibrahim Zawachiki (Kumbotso); and Majority Whip, Hon. Zakariyya Abdullahi Nuhu (Gabasawa).

Other lawmakers listed are Hon. Lawal Tini (Ajingi), Hon. Musa Tahir Haruna (Albasu), Hon. Ali Lawan Alhassan (Bagwai/Shanono), Hon. Ali Muhammad Tiga (Bebeji), Hon. Hafiz Gambo (Bunkure), Hon. Rabiu Shuaibu (Dawakin Kudu), Hon. Tukur Mohammed (ge), Hon. Murtala Muhammad Kadage (Garko), Hon. Abdulmajid Isah Umar (Gwale), Hon. Engr. Ahmad Ibrahim (Karaye), Hon. Alhassan Zakari (Kura/Garun Malam), Hon. Suleiman Mukhtar Ishaq (Madobi), Hon. Abdulhamid Abdul (Minjibir), Hon. Muhammad Ibrahim (Rano), Hon. Kabiru Sule Dahiru (Tarauni) and Hon. Ali Abdullahi Manager (Wudil).

In total, 22 members of the Kano State House of Assembly were directly involved in the defection, marking a major political shift within the state legislature.

The mass resignation comes amid ongoing political realignments in Kano State following Governor Yusuf’s recent departure from the NNPP, a development that continues to reshape the state’s political landscape ahead of future elections.
