Israel has escalated its military operations by launching a ground offensive in Gaza City as part of its ongoing conflict with Hamas. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed the operation’s initiation and urged residents to evacuate, stating that recent airstrikes were just an introduction to a larger military campaign.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are employing a odical strategy aimed at dismantling Hamas’s military infrastructure while trying to minimize civilian casualties. Reports indicate that Israeli forces are encircling Gaza City from various directions to isolate Hamas strongholds, following airstrikes targeting key high-rise buildings used for Hamas operations.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza has severely worsened, with the United Nations estimating that around 650,000 residents have evacuated Gaza City to the southern parts of the enclave. Many, however, are hesitant to leave due to fears of displacement and uncertainty about their future. The conflict has caused significant loss of life, with over 62,000 Palestinians reported dead since hostilities resumed in March 2025.

International responses have been mixed. The United States has suggested a new ceasefire plan, which includes a proposed prisoner-hostage exce, but Israel’s acceptance is met with Hamas’s rejection, calling it a “humiliating surrender” and demanding disarmament and political concessions.

The situation remains dynamic, with ongoing military actions and diplomatic discussions. The international community is closely monitoring these developments, emphasizing the urgent need for a resolution that addresses the humanitarian crisis and fosters long-term peace in the region.
