Talks between the United States and Iran have ended without an agreement, as tensions in the Middle East conflict remain unresolved following marathon negotiations in Islamabad.
US Vice President JD Vance said Washington presented Tehran with what he described as a “final and best offer” before departing the talks. He noted that the United States is seeking a firm commitment from Iran to abandon any pursuit of nuclear weapons, but such assurances have not yet been secured.
Despite the deadlock, Vance indicated that the US is still allowing time for Iran to consider the proposal. A temporary pause in hostilities, involving the US and Israel, is expected to last for two weeks while diplomatic efforts continue.
The negotiations, facilitated by Pakistan, were the highest level engagement between Washington and Tehran in decades. Pakistani officials urged both sides to respect the ceasefire and continue dialogue to avoid further escalation.
Iranian authorities, including statements aired by state media, blamed the impasse on what they described as unreasonable demands from the American side. However, officials also acknowledged that reaching a comprehensive deal after weeks of conflict would be difficult in a single round of talks.
The war, which began after coordinated strikes by the United States and Israel in late February, has deilized the region and disrupted global markets.
