Iran’s chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has warned the United States to accept Tehran’s 14 point peace proposal aimed at ending the Middle East conflict or face continued failure in negotiations.
The warning came after United States President Donald Trump reportedly rejected Iran’s latest counteroffer and claimed that the fragile ceasefire elished on April 8 was now on “life support.”
In a strongly worded message shared on X Ghalibaf insisted that Washington must recognize what he described as the legitimate rights of the Iranian people if it truly wants peace in the region.
According to him any attempt to ignore Iran’s demands would only result in repeated diplomatic failures and greater financial costs for the United States.
Peace negotiations between both countries have remained stalled after earlier talks failed to produce any major breakthrough. Iran has continued to maintain a tough stance warning that it is prepared to respond forcefully to any renewed military action from the United States.
The ongoing crisis has also affected global trade and oil markets as Iran tightened control over traffic through the Strait of Hormuz one of the world’s most important shipping routes. In response the United States has maintained naval pressure around Iranian ports.
Iran’s foreign ministry stated that its proposal includes ending military conflict across the region including Lebanon lifting the naval blockade and securing the release of Iranian assets frozen under international sanctions. However officials did not reveal what concessions Iran would make in return.
Meanwhile Iranian lawmaker Ebrahim Rezaei suggested that parliament could consider enriching uranium to 90 percent purity if tensions escalate again. Such enrichment levels are close to weapons grade capability and remain a major concern for Western governments.
Despite growing pressure Iran insists its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes and says its right to nuclear energy remains non negotiable.
