China has announced plans to provide emergency humanitarian assistance to several Middle Eastern nations affected by the ongoing conflict involving Iran, Lebanon, and others, as the war enters its third week.

Speaking on Tuesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said the conflict has led to severe humanitarian crises across the region. He confirmed that aid would be extended to Iran, Jordan, Lebanon, and Iraq to help ease the suffering of affected populations.

China, a long standing partner of Iran, has consistently called for restraint from all sides. While urging the United States and Israel to halt military strikes, Beijing has also criticised Iran’s retaliatory actions targeting Gulf states hosting US military bases.

According to Lin Jian, China remains committed to promoting peace and preventing further escalation. He emphasized that the country would continue diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the conflict and addressing the growing humanitarian crisis.

As part of these efforts, China’s Middle East envoy, Zhai Jun, recently held talks with officials in Saudi Arabia, urging de escalation and dialogue. Similarly, China’s top diplomat Wang Yi has stated that the war should never have occurred and called for an immediate ceasefire.

The humanitarian announcement comes amid broader geopolitical tensions. Donald Trump recently delayed a planned visit to Beijing, citing the ongoing conflict. He has also urged China to assist in reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil route.

The strait, through which a significant portion of the world’s oil supply passes, has reportedly been disrupted following retaliatory measures by Iran, raising concerns over global energy security.
