Iran Says US Can No Longer Dictate Terms Amid Hormuz Negotiations

Iran has declared that the United States is no longer in a position to dictate policies to other nations, as Washington reviews Tehran’s latest proposal to reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.

The statement was made by defence ministry spokesman Reza Talaei-Nik, who criticized what he described as Washington’s “illegal and irrational demands.” He insisted that the US must adjust to a shifting global balance where independent nations assert their own policies.

Iran has effectively blockaded the Strait of Hormuz since the early stages of its conflict with the United States and Israel, disrupting global energy supplies and pushing oil and gas prices upward. The waterway remains central to ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the war.

Although a ceasefire is currently in place, negotiations for a lasting resolution have stalled, with both sides divided over key issues, including nuclear policy and regional security arrangements. The proposal under consideration in Washington reportedly includes provisions to reopen the strait while broader talks continue.

Talaei-Nik also signaled Iran’s intent to deepen military cooperation with allies, stating that Tehran is ready to share its defensive capabilities with member states of the Shai Cooperation Organisation.

The remarks come ahead of a defence ministers’ meeting of the bloc, where regional security and cooperation are expected to be discussed.

As diplomatic efforts continue, the future of the Strait of Hormuz remains uncertain, with global markets closely watching developments that could shape energy flows and geopolitical ility.
