The Igbo Women Ambassadors have criticized the recent protest by women from the Ohafia council area against Senator Orji Uzor Kalu. The demonstrators reportedly accused the senator of labeling Ohafia as an “IPOB area” during a public statement.
Leader of the group, Ambassador Lady Marlene Onyeocha-Okolie, called for caution and reflection, urging women not to allow themselves to be used as political instruments of division. She emphasized that Igbo women, traditionally custodians of peace, culture, and moral values, should rise above provocation and remain ambassadors of unity and progress.
In a statement, the group said, “Igbo women should remain dignified and not allow themselves to be used as political stooges or instruments of division. Our words and actions carry weight, especially in times of political tension. It is our collective responsibility to promote peace, dialogue, and mutual respect, regardless of political affiliations.”
The organization further stressed that women’s role in fostering peaceful communities is central to sustainable development and the well-being of future generations. Igbo Women Ambassadors also reiterated their commitment to empowering Igbo women globally through leadership, education, advocacy, and the preservation of cultural values.
“Our objectives include promoting peacebuilding and conflict resolution, encouraging responsible civic engagement, and fostering collaboration that strengthens our communities,” the statement added.
