Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has called on the House Oversight Committee to summon President Donald Trump to testify regarding his connections to the late convicted offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Clinton made the remarks on Thursday during her deposition before the Republican-led committee, which is investigating Epstein’s activities and potential links to public figures. She accused the panel of targeting her in order to divert attention from President Trump.

In her opening statement, Clinton said, “The committee is using my deposition to distract attention from President Trump, who has ties to Epstein that remain unexplored.” She emphasized the importance of holding all relevant figures accountable to ensure a thorough investigation.

Epstein, a financier convicted of offenses, maintained connections with numerous high-profile individuals in politics, business, and entertainment. His 2019 death intensified scrutiny of his associates and raised questions about the handling of his case.

Clinton’s deposition comes amid heightened political tensions in the United States, with critics arguing that some congressional investigations are influenced by partisan considerations. Her call for Trump to testify signals an effort to broaden the scope of the inquiry beyond her own involvement.

The House Oversight Committee has faced criticism from various quarters over its handling of inquiries related to Epstein and political figures. Clinton’s statements highlight the ongoing debate over transparency, accountability, and the reach of congressional investigations into sensitive matters involving former and current leaders.

Observers note that any decision to call President Trump would likely intensify political divisions, but supporters argue that it is necessary to ensure a complete understanding of Epstein’s network and potential enablers.
