Akpabio Reveals APC is Nearly in Complete Control of Nigerian Senate

President Godswill Akpabio has revealed that the opposition in the National Assembly is almost gone, with most senators ready to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He said only “four or five” senators remain outside the APC, and even those few have shown interest in switching to the ruling party.

Akpabio made these comments while speaking to members of the APC National Caucus. He pointed out that this shows how much the APC is growing stronger at the federal level.

“When we came in, the opposition had almost 50 members, but today, when I counted, there were about five or four left in the opposition,” Akpabio said. “Even those five members have whispered to me that I should carry them to the President and the leader of the party that they are prepared to join the APC.”

He praised the APC leadership, especially the National Working Committee led by Abdullahi Ganduje, and also recognized Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma for helping to keep the party united and well-organized.

Akpabio noted that the APC has grown without major problems, with many important politicians joining peacefully, while opposition parties keep losing members.

Despite celebrating the APC’s rise, Akpabio said he does not want a National Assembly without any opposition. He explained that he has allowed some senators who joined the APC at the state level to stay in the minority caucus in the Senate to keep some balance.

He mentioned Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah for allowing Senator Osita Ngwu to continue as Minority Chief Whip. “I do not want to run a Senate without any opposition,” Akpabio said. “So because of that, I have intentionally allowed the APC members who have declared in their states but are yet to declare in the Senate to continue in the minority caucus. Otherwise, that place would have been empty.”
