Hadiza Isma, wife of former Nasir El-Rufai, has dismissed claims by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) that wiretapping equipment was found during a search of their residence.
In a post on X, Hadiza Isma stated, “I was there. No such equipment was found. They lie. But why? An agency with no credibility at all.” The ICPC had previously alleged that devices capable of intercepting confidential communications and accessing classified security materials were recovered at the El-Rufai home in Abuja.
Reacting to the allegations, Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, son of Nasir El-Rufai and member representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency, described the claims as false and politically motivated. The family accused the ICPC of conducting a “circus of chicanery” rather than following proper legal procedures.
The statement highlighted that only personal devices such as old mobile phones, laptops, and storage gadgets were seized, with no sophisticated wiretapping equipment discovered. They further alleged the search was executed using a defective or possibly forged warrant, undermining the legitimacy of the operation. The family also criticized the ICPC for lacking credibility and acting under external influence.
Mohammed Bello El-Rufai confirmed that lawyers have been instructed to pursue legal remes to challenge the search, the alleged forged warrant, and the ICPC statements, expressing confidence that the judiciary will uphold the family’s constitutional rights.
The El-Rufai family’s response reflects ongoing tensions between political figures and anti-corruption agencies in Nigeria, highlighting disputes over legal procedure and public accountability.
