Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has publicly criticized Air Peace over what she described as poor handling of passengers stranded at London Gatwick Airport.
In a series of posts on her official X account, Akindele said passengers, including elderly travellers, were left stranded from early morning hours without clear communication or adequate support from the airline.
She explained that the disruption began around 6:30 am and extended into the afternoon, leaving passengers exhausted, hungry, and without their checked luggage. According to her, affected travellers were initially informed of a bird strike and promised hotel accommodation, but hours later, no such arrangements had been provided.
Akindele further called on the airline to urgently release passengers’ luggage and fulfill its promise of hotel accommodation, stressing the hardship faced by families and elderly passengers caught in the situation.
In response, Air Peace acknowledged her complaint, expressing empathy and apologising for the inconvenience. The airline stated that the disruption was due to operational challenges beyond its control, adding that safety remains its top priority.
The airline also assured that efforts were underway to assist all affected passengers and resolve the situation as quickly as possible.
Despite the response, Akindele later posted again, saying passengers were still stranded for several hours without proper updates, food, or accommodation, and urged the airline to take immediate action.
The incident has drawn attention to airline service delays and passenger welfare concerns affecting international travellers using Nigerian carriers.
