Operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps attached to the Zaria Unit Command in Kaduna State have recovered and returned ₦3,727,500 in cash along with valuables estimated at about ₦500,000 from the scene of a fatal road crash.
The incident occurred on Sunday, March 15, 2026, along the Zaria Funtua Highway near Zaria Academy. The crash involved a Toyota Corolla and a Peugeot 806 carrying nine passengers.
According to a statement released on Monday by the Corps Public Education Officer, Felicia Kalu, one passenger d at the scene of the accident while eight others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
She explained that rescue teams from the FRSC responded immediately after receiving a distress call and quickly moved to assist the victims.
The injured passengers were given first aid at the scene before being evacuated to the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital in Shika for urgent medical attention.
During the rescue and post crash clearance operations, FRSC personnel discovered a large sum of money and other valuable items scattered across the accident site.
According to the statement, the officers demonstrated discipline and professionalism by securing the ₦3,727,500 and safeguarding the valuables until they could be returned to their rightful owners.
The Zaria Unit Commander, Chief Route Commander Nasiru Falgore, later handed over the recovered cash and items to the victims in the presence of their relatives and witnesses on Monday.
Commending the officers for their conduct, the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, described the act as a reflection of the organisation’s core values of honesty, accountability and service to humanity.
He praised the operatives for maintaining high standards of discipline and transparency, stressing that integrity remains a key principle guiding all operations of the road safety agency.
The beneficiaries of the recovered cash expressed gratitude to the officers for not only rescuing the injured victims quickly but also protecting their money during a difficult moment.
They also pledged to promote road safety awareness and responsible driving within their communities.
The FRSC noted that the incident highlights the agency’s commitment to professionalism, transparency and ethical conduct in the discharge of its duties across Nigeria.
