The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Kaduna State Command has warned contractors, construction firms and other individuals against damaging fibre optic cables across the state.
State Commandant Panam Musa issued the caution during a press briefing in Kaduna on Friday, stressing that the protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure remains a core mandate of the corps.
According to Musa, fibre optic cables are vital to national communication systems and economic activities, particularly in supporting Nigeria’s growing digital economy. He noted that any damage to such infrastructure constitutes an offence under the Critical National Infrastructure Order 2024.
“NSCDC will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute anyone found willfully or recklessly damaging these cables,” he warned. “They are vital to our digital economy, and any disruption can have serious consequences for the country’s economy and security.”
The commandant urged contractors and construction companies to exercise due diligence when carrying out excavation or construction works near fibre optic installations. He emphasized the need for proper consultation and verification before digging to prevent accidental damage.
Musa also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and report suious activities or attempts to vandalise telecommunications infrastructure to the NSCDC or other security agencies.
Reaffirming the command’s commitment to safeguarding critical infrastructure, he assured that offenders would be brought to justice, adding that protecting national assets is a collective responsibility.
