Former senator John Kojo-Brambaifa, who represented Bayelsa West Senatorial District in the 5th National Assembly, has passed away at the age of 81. Reports indicate that the veteran lawmaker d on Saturday, January 3, 2025, at a hospital in Abuja.

The death of the former senator has drawn tributes from across Bayelsa State, with Governor Douye Diri describing Brambaifa as an illustrious son of the state and a distinguished public servant. In a condolence message sent to the family on behalf of the Bayelsa State Government and its people, the governor praised the late senator’s political legacy and commitment to public service.

Governor Diri said Bayelsa and Nigeria had lost an elder statesman, noting that Brambaifa was an astute politician who contributed meaningfully to governance and community development. He described him as an amiable gentleman and a respected leader whose impact would be remembered beyond his years in elective office.

The condolence message was conveyed in a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, who emphasized that the late senator distinguished himself through service and leadership during his time in the National Assembly.

Brambaifa’s death comes at a difficult period for Bayelsa State, following the recent loss of the state’s deputy governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who reportedly d after collapsing at his office. The back-to-back losses have deepened the sense of mourning within the state’s political and public circles.

In honour of the late deputy governor, the Bayelsa State Government had earlier declared a three-day mourning period, highlighting the emotional toll of the recent trages on the state.

As tributes continue to pour in, John Kojo-Brambaifa is being remembered as a committed lawmaker, community leader, and elder statesman whose service left a lasting mark on Bayelsa and Nigeria’s political history.
