The Federal Housing Authority (FHA) has announced plans for large-scale construction and delivery of affordable houses across Nigeria in 2026, building on groundwork laid last year. The initiative is part of the “Renewed Hope” housing agenda aimed at expanding access to homes for Nigerians.
FHA Managing Director, Oyetunde Ojo, revealed the plans during the opening of a three-day staff retreat at Warm Springs Resort, Ikogosi Ekiti, emphasizing the authority’s focus on consolidating reforms and delivering on its core mandate of housing provision.
“This year is about the full construction and delivery of houses that we promised Nigerians. We started groundbreaking last year in Akwa Ibom and Kaduna. By the first quarter, we plan to deliver Bwari in Abuja with 400 housing units, 86% completed, to be inaugurated by President Tinubu,” Ojo said.
Ojo added that FHA would continue its construction-delivery model nationwide, with major projects scheduled for Odukpani (Cross River), Ajoda (Ibadan), Ekiti, and Abia states. He highlighted that 70% of units in Bwari are allocated to the informal sector, urging Nigerians to contact FHA for information on accessing affordable homes.
FHA Executive Director of Finance and Accounts, Dr. Mathias Byuan, stated that land for the projects has been secured in all 36 states, and construction would begin in February 2026 through a mix of public-private partnerships.
“Where we met abandoned works, we have completed them and are giving them out to people at affordable rates. Massive construction will start in line with President Tinubu’s mandate to us,” Byuan said.
The authority also highlighted a new 200-unit housing project in Ado Ekiti, with 20 hectares of land donated by Governor Biodun Oyebanji, on which the first 100 units will be constructed. The project targets two-bedroom bungalows and aims to bridge the housing gap in Ekiti State.
Ojo emphasized that the FHA is committed to ensuring that housing delivery is nationwide and inclusive, providing affordable homes for both the formal and informal sectors, while leveraging partnerships to expand capacity and funding.
