Newly appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has pledged to strengthen Nigeria’s global engagement by building on the 4D Foreign Policy priorities under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Odumegwu Ojukwu, who was elevated from Minister of State to substantive minister on April 29, 2026, expressed gratitude to Bola Tinubu for the appointment and reaffirmed her commitment to protecting Nigeria’s national interests on the international stage.

Speaking at a dinner held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to conclude a three day induction programme for ambassadors and high commissioners designate, she called for collaboration among envoys and ministry officials to enhance Nigeria’s global image while safeguarding its interests.

In a message shared publicly, the minister described her appointment as an honour and pledged to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s diplomatic objectives. She emphasized her dedication to advancing citizen diplomacy and ensuring that Nigeria’s foreign policy remains people centered.

Central to her agenda is the 4D Foreign Policy framework, which focuses on Democracy, Development, Demography, and Diaspora. The doctrine, introduced after the inauguration of the Tinubu administration and formally unveiled by former Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, is designed to reposition Nigeria as a more active and strategic player in global affairs.

The policy aims to shift Nigeria’s approach from a largely inward focus to one that is assertive, economically driven, and responsive to the needs of its citizens at home and abroad.

Odumegwu Ojukwu’s elevation marks a continuation of that vision, with expectations that her leadership will deepen diplomatic ties, promote economic opportunities, and strengthen Nigeria’s presence in international relations.
