Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has expressed deep sorrow over the kidnapping and ing of a young man in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area of the state, describing the incident as tragic and heartbreaking.
The ing, which occurred on Friday, January 9, 2026, sparked fear, anger, and outrage among residents of Ekpoma, particularly students of Ambrose Alli University. The incident has renewed concerns over security in the university town and its surrounding communities.
In a statement shared via his verified X handle on Monday, Governor Okpebholo extended his heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family, friends, and the entire Ekpoma community. He noted that the loss of a young life under such circumstances is deeply painful and unacceptable.
“I am deeply saddened and disturbed by the kidnapping and ing of a young man in Ekpoma. This tragic incident is heartbreaking, and I extend my sincere condolences to the victim’s family, friends, and the entire Ekpoma community during this very painful time,” the governor said.
Acknowledging the growing fear and frustration among residents, Okpebholo stressed that no individual should live in fear or feel unsafe in their own community. He disclosed that he personally visited Ekpoma to assess the security situation and held meetings with community leaders and other key stakeholders.
The governor revealed that security agencies have been directed to intensify operations in Ekpoma and neighbouring areas to prevent further incidents. He assured residents that those responsible for the crime would be apprehended and brought to justice.
“I have directed our security agencies to intensify operations, with immediate measures to prevent further incidents. We are working closely with all relevant authorities to strengthen security and restore calm,” he stated.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property, Okpebholo emphasized that the safety of Edo residents remains his top priority.
“I hear the voices of our people. I stand with Ekpoma, and I will not relent until safety is fully restored,” he added.
