Bayero University Kano has issued a stern warning to staff and residents over stray animals roaming its campuses, threatening to impound such animals and sanction their owners.

In a statement on Tuesday, the university’s Director of Public Affairs, Lamara Garba, speaking on behalf of the Registrar, reminded residents that rearing animals within university premises is strictly prohibited under the Revised Guidelines for Staff Housing Allocation and Maintenance. The directive aims to enforce housing regulations and preserve environmental hygiene across staff quarters.

The university clarified that residents keeping the permitted minimum number of domestic animals must ensure they are properly confined. “Allowing animals to roam freely within the university community constitutes a violation of elished regulations and poses environmental, health, and safety concerns,” the statement said.

The Security Division of the university will commence immediate arrest and impoundment of any stray animals found on campus. Owners of such animals will be identified and held accountable in line with existing regulations. Members found contravening the directive may face sanctions as outlined in the Staff Quarters Residency Guidelines.

The management urged all residents of the Old and New Campuses, Zoo Road Staff Quarters, and the School of Continuing Education to comply fully with the directive, emphasizing that the measures are necessary to maintain order, hygiene, and the integrity of the campus environment.
