The All Progressives Congress in Abia State has announced the zoning of its 2027 governorship ticket to Abia Central Senatorial District, a decision the party says is aimed at strengthening fairness, equity, and balanced representation within the state.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the party publicity secretary, Chief Uche Aguoru, which also directed aspirants interested in contesting under the party to proceed with the purchase of expression of interest and nomination forms based on the zoning arrangement.

According to the party, the decision reflects its internal power sharing agreement and the long standing rotational understanding among the three senatorial districts in Abia State since 1999. It noted that the current state chairman of the party comes from Abia North while the immediate past governor is from Abia South, making Abia Central the next in line for the governorship slot.

The statement emphasized that equity and fairness require that Abia Central be given the opportunity to produce the next governor on the platform of the party. It also called on all aspirants and stakeholders from other zones to respect the decision and work in unity for the progress of the party.

Reacting to the development, former Minister of Science and Technology and leading aspirant from Abia Central, Chief Henry Ikoh, welcomed the zoning arrangement, describing it as a step toward justice, inclusion, and political balance. He urged members of the party to support the decision and prioritize unity ahead of the elections.

Ikoh expressed confidence that with fairness in place, the All Progressives Congress can secure victory in the 2027 governorship election in Abia State, describing the state as a low ing fruit for the party if internal harmony is maintained.

The zoning arrangement may also have implications for prominent political figures from Abia North who were previously speculated as potential contenders.
