The All Progressives Congress has released an updated list of senatorial aspirants disqualified from participating in its upcoming primary elections, with former Bayelsa East Senator Ben Murray Bruce no longer included among those barred from the contest.
The party had earlier announced that 47 aspirants failed to scale its screening exercise conducted by designated committees in line with internal party guidelines. However, the revised list reduced the number of affected aspirants to 44 after the removal of Murray Bruce’s name, suggesting a review of the earlier decision.
Despite the adjustment, several notable political figures remain disqualified, including Rivers politician Tein Jack Rich, whose name still appears on the updated list released by the party leadership.
According to the APC, the screening exercise was carried out in compliance with party regulations and elished procedures aimed at ensuring transparency and orderliness in the primary election process. The revised list affects aspirants across multiple states including Rivers, Oyo, Zamfara, Bayelsa, Nasarawa and Plateau, with several senatorial districts impacted.
The updated statement was signed by APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka, who urged all stakeholders to maintain the integrity of the ongoing process.
Morka stated that the APC remains committed to transparency and fairness as preparations continue for the Senate primary elections. However, the party did not provide any explanation for the removal of some names from the original disqualification list.
The development has sparked political discussions among party supporters and observers, especially regarding the screening criteria and possible appeals by affected aspirants. Despite the controversy, the APC is expected to proceed with its primaries as scheduled in the lead up to the next electoral cycle.
