Emmanuel Taiwo has emerged as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the Ipokia Yewa South Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives ahead of the party’s upcoming direct primary.

The decision was ratified during a high level stakeholders meeting held in Ilaro, according to a statement issued by Lateef Akintunde, the Zonal Information Officer of Yewa North Local Government. The meeting brought together party leaders and elders from across the constituency.

Among those present was former Deputy Governor Salmot Badru, who described the consensus arrangement as a reflection of unity and extensive consultation among stakeholders committed to strengthening progressive governance in Ogun West.

Badru explained that the choice of Taiwo was based on his competence, loyalty, and strong grassroots connection. She noted that his administrative experience and political maturity position him to effectively represent the constituency at the National Assembly.

Taiwo previously served as Chief of Staff to Dapo Abiodun, where he played a key role in governance and policy coordination. His experience in government operations was also highlighted by former lawmaker Adekunle Akinlade, who said it would enable him to attract federal projects and development initiatives to the constituency.

Other stakeholders, including Mufutau Ajibola and Chief Iyabo Apampa, stated that the consensus move underscores party unity and a shared commitment to electoral success.

In his acceptance remarks, Taiwo expressed gratitude to party leaders for the confidence placed in him, describing his emergence as a collective effort to advance the interests of the people. He pledged to focus on inclusive representation, youth empowerment, and sustainable development.

The candidate, who hails from Ifoyintedo Ward in Ipokia Local Government Area, also emphasised his close ties to the grassroots, noting his understanding of the socio economic challenges facing the constituency.

The party’s decision is expected to be formally affirmed during the APC direct primary, with many party members already expressing confidence in Taiwo’s ability to deliver effective representation.
