The All Progressives Congress has strongly condemned a planned protest by joint labour unions in Osun State, calling it unnecessary and politically motivated. The protest is set to take place over the ongoing dispute concerning local government fund allocations.

According to the party’s Director of Media, Kola Olabisi, the protest, organized by the state chapter of the Joint Labour Movement, is being orchestrated under the leadership of Christopher A Arapasopo, Bimbo Fasaasi, and Lekan Adediran.

The demonstration is reportedly in response to local government allocations paid by the Federal Government into accounts controlled by APC reinstated council executives, a move opposed by the Peoples Democratic Party and the state government, resulting in the funds being withheld by United Bank for Africa since 2025.

Olabisi warned that the party would resist any attempts to deilize the state and called on security agencies including the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to take proactive steps to maintain law and order ahead of the planned protest.

The APC also alleged that part of the planned demonstration involves picketing UBA branches, targeting workers, and disrupting commercial activities. Olabisi claimed that the protest was influenced by meetings between labour leaders and political figures within Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration.

The party urged all parties to exercise restraint and resolve the dispute through lawful channels, emphasizing that any violent or disruptive actions would be met with strict legal measures.
