The Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed in a statement on Sunday that Anikpe was apprehended by operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka on January 7, 2026. The arrest comes amid rumours falsely suggesting the crime was linked to debt disputes, which police have clarified are untrue.

According to Ikenga, the suspect confessed during interrogation to bing Mmadubugwu in the neck on December 9, 2025. The act reportedly stemmed from Anikpe’s suion that his girlfriend was unfaithful. The tragic incident has sparked outrage in the community and reignited discussions around domestic violence and relationship-related crimes in Anambra State. The police urged residents to resolve disputes lawfully, seek peaceful solutions, and report early warning signs of domestic abuse to prevent such avoidable trages.

The suspect is expected to be charged to court following the conclusion of police investigations.
