Pakistan should face investigation for possible war crimes following a devastating missile strike on a drug rehabilitation center in Kabul that ed 269 people and wounded hundreds more, Amnesty International declared Wednesday. Amnesty researchers gathered extensive satellite imagery and eyewitness testimony confirming that Omid operated as an active medical facility at the time of the strike. Investigators verified more than 60 photographs and videos of the site and conducted interviews with current and former staff members from both the rehabilitation center and the nearby Ibn e Sina Hospital.
Satellite photographs obtained three days before the show dozens of patients queuing in the main treatment areas and administrative buildings. Multiple witnesses living in the surrounding area corroborated that the facility actively treated patients when the strike occurred around 9pm local time. Photographic and video evidence analyzed by Amnesty revealed most victims were recovered from the dining hall and kitchen, suggesting the happened as patients gathered for their evening meal.
