Agege Council Unveils ₦100m Grant for Youths and Women Entrepreneurs

The Chairman of Agege Local Government Council in Lagos, Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa, has unveiled a ₦100 million grant to support youths and women engaged in micro and small scale enterprises within the council area.

Obasa announced the initiative at a Ss Elevation Programme graduation ceremony held at the council secretariat on Friday. According to the News Agency of Nigeria, about 1,000 beneficiaries received vocational and digital training under the scheme.

The council boss said the intervention is aimed at strengthening grassroots businesses and boosting human capital development in Agege. He noted that the ₦100 million grant would be injected into the local economy in collaboration with Speed Up Lagos Anti Poverty Squad to empower emerging entrepreneurs.

Obasa explained that beneficiaries were trained in catering, food processing, fashion design, makeup and gele styling. Others acquired ss in digital technology, hairstyling, home essentials production and sandal making. He said the training was designed to provide practical and income generating ss that would enable participants to become self reliant.

A former Agege Council Chairman, Ganiyu Egunjobi, commended the initiative, describing it as a consolidation of previous empowerment efforts in the community.

Also speaking, Sherifat Adedoyin of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board said the programme aligns with the state broader ss development agenda.

Beneficiaries expressed optimism about the impact of the training and financial support. A catering graduate, Kemi Adebayo, said the programme provided her with professional ss and funding to expand her food business, while Olalekan Sanni, who trained in digital technology, described the initiative as timely and transformative.

Community leaders present at the event praised the council for promoting poverty reduction and economic ility through sustainable empowerment.
