The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company has announced a major power outage affecting several parts of Abuja, including residential areas, hotels, government offices, and diplomatic missions.
In a statement shared on its verified X account on Saturday, AEDC said the blackout was caused by a technical fault currently being addressed by engineers from the Transmission Company of Nigeria.
Several prominent locations were affected by the outage, including Bolingo Hotel, Envoy Hotel, the Wada Maida Building which houses the headquarters of the News Agency of Nigeria, and multiple foreign embassies such as those of Sudan, Egypt, Turkey, Pakistan, India, and the European Union.
Government institutions including the National Planning Commission and the National Hospital were also listed among affected locations.
AEDC further disclosed that many residential and commercial districts in Garki were without electricity supply. The affected areas include Garki Areas One, Two, Three, Seven, and Eight, as well as Garki Village, Garki Market, Ubiaja Street, Kaltungo Street, Lagos Street, and Oka Akoko Street.
Other locations impacted by the outage include Treasury House, Karibu Hotel, parts of Asokoro, Imo Government Lodge, Gado Nasko Street, Justice Sowemimo Street, Hassan Musa Katsina Street, Jasse Martin area, NIA, and TY Danjuma Street.
The company also confirmed that communities around Lugbe and the airport axis were experiencing blackout. Areas mentioned include Jedo, Forte Royal, Customs Quarters, Aviation Village, Piwoye, Kapwa, Ok Water, Nicomsat, Korean School, and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
According to AEDC, technical teams from the Transmission Company of Nigeria are working to restore electricity supply to all affected locations as quickly as possible.
The company apologised for the inconvenience caused by the disruption and appealed to residents and businesses to remain patient while repair works continue.
Frequent power outages remain a major challenge in Nigeria, with technical faults, infrastructure problems, and grid inility often affecting electricity distribution across major cities.
