The African Democratic Congress ADC has reaffirmed its determination to participate fully in the 2027 general elections despite a recent Federal High Court ruling that bars the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC from recognising its state congresses. The decision has created uncertainty around the party internal structure and readiness, but its leadership insists the setback is temporary.

National Chairman Senator David Mark made this known on Wednesday night in Abuja after receiving a detailed briefing from the party legal team. He assured members and supporters that there is no cause for alarm and expressed strong confidence in the party legal position.

According to him, the ADC has already initiated the appeal process and filed for a stay of execution of the court ruling. He stressed that the party is committed to pursuing all legal options within the framework of the law to overturn the judgment and restore recognition of its congresses.

Mark stated that the party leadership is fully prepared for the legal challenge ahead and will not be deterred. He emphasized that the ADC will be on the ballot in every election in 2027, regardless of the ongoing litigation. He also pledged to personally lead efforts to ensure the party prevails in court.

The ruling had halted recognition of congresses conducted by committees set up under the current National Working Committee, raising concerns about party organization ahead of the elections. However, the leadership remains focused on strengthening its structure and mobilizing support nationwide.

As preparations for the 2027 polls intensify, the ADC leadership says it is confident that the legal battle will end in its favor, allowing the party to move forward without restrictions.
