Abia State Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, has denied reports alleging that he threatened President Bola Tinubu over the detention of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and the 2027 general elections.

In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Chukwudi Mba, the Deputy Governor described the publication titled “2027: Abia State Govt Will Teach Tinubu A Bitter Lesson Over Nnamdi Kanu’s Detention — Deputy Governor Emetu” as fabricated and misleading.

The statement emphasized that the report “is entirely false, lacks verifiable context, and fails to provide essential media attributes such as date, venue, or occasion.” It clarified that no official event, interview, press briefing, or public engagement exists where the quoted statements were allegedly made.

“At no time did the Deputy Governor threaten to ‘teach’ President Tinubu or any member of his family a ‘bitter political lesson,’ nor did he make remarks concerning the 2027 elections or Nnamdi Kanu’s detention,” the statement read. It added that the language attributed to him “does not reflect the Deputy Governor’s character, temperament, or leadership style.”

The statement stressed that Engr. Emetu remains committed to civil discourse, issue-based politics, and lawful, constitutional processes. While acknowledging the sensitivity of the Nnamdi Kanu issue, he continues to advocate for dialogue-driven solutions rather than threats or divisive rhetoric.

The Deputy Governor also criticized media platforms that publish unverified quotations, noting that such reports “are not only unethical but capable of heightening political tension and misleading the public.”

Engr. Emetu reaffirmed his focus on supporting the Governor of Abia State in delivering good governance, promoting development, and strengthening democratic institutions across the state.
