James Kitiya, a former supporter of Peter Obi, has publicly explained why he switched allegiance to Bola Ahmed Tinubu, citing visible development and governance efforts as key factors behind his decision. Speaking on Vanguard’s podcast The Nigerian Meter, Kitiya said his political realignment was driven by what he described as measurable progress under Tinubu’s leadership over the past three years.

According to Kitiya, infrastructure projects particularly in Lagos influenced his stance. He pointed to ongoing road construction near Eko Atlantic as daily evidence of government activity. While acknowledging economic hardship across the country, he argued that the administration’s policies are effective but overshadowed by widespread hunger and public frustration.

Kitiya revealed that he officially joined the All Progressives Congress in February 2026 in Adamawa State. He contrasted the ruling party’s approach with that of the Obint movement, claiming that APC campaigns focus on achievements while Obi’s supporters often rely on criticism and online s.

Despite this, he urged political supporters to engage peacefully and avoid hostility.

Addressing his departure from Obi’s camp, Kitiya said he did not feel obligated to inform the former candidate, noting that Obi himself made political moves without consulting supporters. He also expressed doubts about Obi’s current political direction, especially following his alignment with the ADC.

Kitiya maintained that while he still respects Obi as a person, he no longer believes in his political prospects. He concluded by rating Tinubu’s performance at 50 percent, describing it as a fair assessment given both progress made and ongoing economic challenges.
