Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is facing fresh criticism over his campaign style ahead of the 2027 presidential elections. The remarks came from Arise News anchor Rufai Oseni during Friday’s Morning Show broadcast, where he questioned the substance behind the candidate’s recent pledges.
Oseni didn’t mince words. “Atiku Abubakar is beginning to sound like a public sound bite to me,” he said, challenging the politician to provide concrete implementation strategies rather than broad promises. The criticism follows Atiku’s recent vow to reinstate Nigeria’s controversial fuel subsidy regime and reopen northern border crossings for legitimate trade.
What’s missing from these pledges? According to the broadcaster, it’s the follow-through. He pressed for step-by-step explanations of how such ambitious policies would actually work in practice, calling for an end to what he termed campaign “hypes.”
Still, Oseni acknowledged one potential benefit from Atiku’s positioning. He suggested that the opposition candidate’s pressure may have prompted President Bola Tinubu’s recent directive to reduce Compressed Natural Gas prices. Whether Atiku will respond with more detailed policy proposals remains to be seen as Nigeria’s political season heats up.
