Governor Seyi Makinde has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election, stating that Nigeria is in urgent need of a national “reset” and stronger democratic engagement.

Makinde made the declaration on Thursday during a mega rally announcing a political alliance between the Peoples Democratic Party and the Allied Peoples Movement in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The governor said the current state of the country required citizens to move beyond passive observation and actively participate in shaping governance. He stressed that democracy thrives only when multiple political voices are allowed to compete freely and constructively.

According to him, Nigeria’s political and economic challenges have reached a point where opposition forces must unite to provide credible alternatives and restore confidence in governance. He described the alliance between PDP and APM as a step toward building a broader coalition capable of contesting power at all levels, including the presidency and state assemblies.

Makinde said the time had come for Nigerians to demand accountability and ensure that government truly works for the people. He urged citizens to reject political apathy and instead engage fully in democratic processes to drive meaningful ce.

He further declared that the PDP APM collaboration would field candidates across all electoral positions, signaling a strengthened opposition front ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Concluding his remarks, Makinde formally announced his presidential ambition, stating that he is ready to lead efforts aimed at resetting Nigeria’s governance structure and national direction.
