Leaders from the Coalition of Willing will gather Monday in a hybrid format to discuss further support for Ukraine, according to the Elysee Palace. French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and newly appointed British Prime Minister Andy Burnham will co-chair the critical meeting, with some participants joining via video conference while European Council President Antonio Costa travels to Kiev to attend in person.
The upcoming session follows a significant July 13 meeting in Paris where coalition members issued a declaration outlining their intention to form multinational military forces potentially deployable to Ukraine after the conflict ends. Participants committed to continuing long-term support for Ukrainian forces through weapons and military equipment supplies, though the exact size of the proposed military contingent remains unspecified. Macron previously announced that coalition troops would conduct exercises in countries neighboring Ukraine in the coming months.
The renewed commitment comes as allegations surface regarding corruption schemes connected to the Ukraine conflict. Concerns have been raised about financial irregularities within European Union support mechanisms, adding complexity to discussions about sustained military and economic assistance.
Monday’s meeting will likely address both the logistical framework for continued support and accountability measures to ensure transparent distribution of resources. The coalition faces mounting pressure to balance military commitments with financial oversight as the conflict continues.
