A Yoruba socio political organisation, the Yoruba Commitment Group, has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the removal of Yoruba rights activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, from the Federal Government’s list of wanted persons.

In a statement jointly signed by Otunba Tayo Onayemi, Chief Olugbenga Oyewusi, Mrs Buky Tunde Oshunrinde, Barrister Akeem Aponmade and Dr Olukayode Olunuga, the group also expressed gratitude to traditional rulers across Yorubaland for their behind the scenes efforts that reportedly contributed to the development.

The group described Igboho as a courageous defender of the Yoruba people, stating that he stood up against the activities of suspected armed herders following repeated complaints of s and kidnappings in parts of the South West.

Igboho’s ordeal began in 2021 after he intervened in Igangan in Oyo State, where residents had raised concerns over insecurity. Shortly after, operatives of the Department of State Services reportedly raided his residence in Ibadan in July 2021, an operation that led to casualties and significant property damage.

Commending President Tinubu’s decision, the group described the action as magnanimous and statesmanlike, noting that it reflects a commitment to justice, reconciliation and national healing. It added that the gesture symbolises appreciation for a son of Yorubaland who took risks in the face of adversity.

The statement also paid homage to traditional rulers for their role in facilitating dialogue and easing tensions surrounding the matter. The group expressed optimism that continued engagement between royal institutions and federal authorities would help resolve any remaining issues related to Igboho’s case.

It concluded by welcoming Igboho back and expressing hope that the development would promote peace, unity and ility in the South West and across Nigeria.
