The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has approved an immediate waiver of Certificate of Occupancy fees for the Nigerian Law School, Abuja campus, as part of efforts to regularise land ownership and improve infrastructure.

Speaking during a meeting with the institution’s management in Abuja, Wike expressed concern that the Law School had operated for years without a valid Certificate of Occupancy since relocating to Bwari. He described the absence of proper documentation as unacceptable and directed the Director of Lands to ensure that all processing fees are waived and the certificate issued within one week.

The minister emphasized that proper land documentation is essential for legal ownership and institutional ility, noting that the current administration is committed to correcting such irregularities across government elishments.

Beyond the land issue, Wike declared an emergency on infrastructure development at the school. He announced that 10 staff quarters have already been completed and are scheduled for commissioning as part of activities marking President Bola Tinubu’s third anniversary in office. He also approved the construction of an additional 10 housing units using existing building designs to reduce costs and speed up delivery.

To address overcrowding, Wike revealed that two new hostels, one for male students and another for female students, are currently under construction. He further approved funding for a new auditorium and questioned delays by the contractor in commencing work.

The minister also encouraged the school to collaborate with the FCT Administration’s legal department to adopt digital systems, similar to reforms being implemented in the High Court, to improve efficiency.

Earlier, the Director General of the Law School, Olugbemisola Odusote, commended the minister for ongoing developments and highlighted infrastructure challenges facing the institution.
