United Nations officials in Geneva highlighted worsening humanitarian conditions in South Sudan and Afghanistan, citing displacement, food insecurity, and funding shortfalls as urgent concerns. During a press briefing, representatives from multiple UN agencies called for increased international support to prevent further deterioration.

In South Sudan, ongoing violence and climate related shocks have compounded already fragile living conditions. Aid agencies reported rising malnutrition rates and limited access to healthcare services in several regions. Humanitarian coordinators emphasized the need for sustained funding to maintain essential relief operations.

In Afghanistan, economic constraints and restrictions affecting women and girls were identified as major drivers of vulnerability. UN officials noted that millions remain dependent on humanitarian assistance, with food insecurity persisting in both urban and rural communities.

The briefing underscored that global humanitarian needs continue to outpace available resources. Officials urged donor governments to prioritize life saving interventions and ensure that aid delivery remains impartial and needs based.

The United Nations reiterated its commitment to working with partners on the ground to expand access and mitigate suffering in both countries.
