Nigerian sprint sensation Tobi Amusan has secured Nigeria’s first gold medal at the Senior African Athletics Championships in Accra after a dominant performance in the women’s 100 metres hurdles on Wednesday. The world record holder once again proved her class on the continental stage by finishing ahead of her rivals to claim another major title for Team Nigeria.
The victory marks Amusan’s third African Championships gold medal, further cementing her status as one of Africa’s greatest track athletes. Her medal was presented by Sebastian Coe, President of World Athletics, during the ceremony in Accra.
Nigeria also celebrated another podium finish as compatriot Adaobi Tabugbo clinched the bronze medal in the same event. The achievement added to Nigeria’s impressive performance since the opening day of the championships and highlighted the country’s growing strength in athletics.
Speaking with journalists after her victory, Amusan encouraged young athletes to remain fearless while pursuing their dreams. She reflected on the doubts she faced early in her hurdling career and how she overcame them to become a global champion.
“Do not let anyone talk fear into your dreams. When I started hurdling, many people believed no African athlete could dominate the event. Today, I am the world record holder,” she said.
