A Senior Legislative Aide to the Deputy Senate President, Rijo Shekari, has defected from the All Progressives Congress to the Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the Zango Jaba Federal Constituency House of Representatives primaries.

Shekari officially announced his defection during the Kaduna South Senatorial District expanded caucus meeting of the PDP held in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, where he was warmly received by party leaders and supporters.

Explaining his decision, Shekari said the move followed extensive consultations with his political allies and constituents. He noted that his choice was driven by the need to align with a platform that reflects his political beliefs and aspirations for effective representation.

He emphasized his commitment to the independence and dignity of the Southern Kaduna people, stating that he believes the PDP offers a more suitable platform to advance their interests. According to him, the decision was not taken lightly but was necessary due to prevailing political realities.

Shekari also declared his intention to contest the Zango Jaba Federal Constituency seat under the PDP, subject to the outcome of the party primaries. He expressed readiness to serve and represent his people, pledging to contribute meaningfully to democratic development.

Leaders of the PDP in the district described his defection as a significant boost, citing his experience in governance and legislative affairs as valuable assets for the party’s grassroots mobilisation efforts ahead of the elections.

The party assured Shekari of full integration into its structure, expressing confidence that his entry would strengthen its base and improve its chances in the upcoming primaries.
