The Special Offences Mobile Court Ikeja has remanded seven individuals in a correctional facility for allegedly assaulting enforcement officers of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) during an environmental monitoring operation.
The defendants Olamilekan Abdullahi (21), Akeem Olamilekan (24), Frank Tom (25), Sakiru Jamiu (20), Emmanuel Abiodun (41), Olarewanju Onyowale (35), and Taiwo Yusuf (30) were apprehended on March 8, 2026 at the Moshalashi Jimoh area of Lagos Island during routine checks against indiscriminate waste disposal.
They were arraigned on March 10, 2026 before the Special Offences Mobile Court in the case Attorney General of Lagos State v. Olamilekan Abdullahi & 6 Others. The defendants face a five-count charge including conduct likely to cause breach of peace, indiscriminate dumping of refuse at unapproved locations, failure to engage approved Private Sector Participant waste operators, obstruction of officers in the discharge of their duties, and assault. All defendants pleaded not guilty.
The court adjourned the trial to April 24, 2026 and granted bail of ₦200,000 each with two responsible sureties required: one a recognised community leader and the other a gainfully employed relative. Until the bail conditions are met, the defendants will remain in custody.
LAWMA reiterated that assault or obstruction of its enforcement personnel constitutes a serious offence under Lagos State law and warned that acts undermining environmental operations would be addressed firmly through legal channels. The authority emphasized its commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment for residents.
