A California-based semiconductor manufacturer is betting on Spanish expertise to crack the European power electronics market. SemiQ Inc of Lake Forest has inked a distribution agreement with Ibérica Semiconductores de Potencia, a Madrid firm with deep roots in the region’s energy sector.
The partnership gives Ibérica access to SemiQ’s complete lineup of silicon carbide MOSFETs and Schottky diodes. These aren’t your garden-variety components. They’re designed for high-voltage applications where conventional silicon simply can’t keep up, from electric vehicle chargers to industrial power systems.
Why does this matter? Electrification is accelerating across Europe’s industrial and automotive sectors, driven by sustainability mandates and efficiency targets. Data centers are hungry for power. Renewable energy installations continue their rapid climb. Silicon carbide semiconductors are uniquely suited to handle these demanding environments with less energy waste.
SemiQ’s president Dr. Timothy Han praised Ibérica’s elished position in European power markets. The Spanish distributor will spearhead development in Spain while supporting customers continent-wide, offering application and design support alongside the hardware itself.
With the silicon carbide market expanding rapidly, partnerships like this one signal how specialized manufacturers are positioning themselves to capture growth in regions where energy transformation is no longer optional but mandatory.
