Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has urged male students to conduct themselves as worthy ambassadors of their schools and states, emphasizing that the opportunities offered to them should translate into a brighter and more rewarding future. The governor spoke on the third day of the 2026 four day residential workshop themed “Reorienting the boy-child to become an ambassador of societal ce,” held at St. Gregory’s College for 600 boys from secondary schools across Lagos.

The initiative, championed by the Office of the First Lady, is aimed at grooming responsible citizens and future leaders. Governor Sanwo Olu highlighted the inclusive selection process, drawing participants from public, private, faith-based, special, and mission schools. He urged the students to value the exposure provided, which included visits to military aircraft, naval warships, and security and police facilities.

“This is a rare four-day opportunity to understand what the future holds. You have been taught leadership, mentorship, discipline, and teamwork. Do not waste it,” he cautioned, while advising moderation in social media use.

The governor also emphasized the need for boys to participate actively in programs like the One-Day Governor initiative, noting that in previous editions, all winners were girls. “You must assure me that next year, some of you will emerge because of the training you are receiving here,” he said.

First Lady Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu called on parents and stakeholders to support boys in navigating peer pressure, negative societal influences, substance abuse, and emotional challenges. She explained that the workshop empowers boys to become confident, productive, and responsible members of society.

The Lagos Boy Child Initiative continues to provide life-shaping opportunities, ensuring that boys develop discipline, leadership, and civic responsibility, preparing them to positively impact their families, schools, and communities.
