It was an emotional and enlightening event as The Prostate Clinic marked its first anniversary, turning the occasion into a strong national call for early detection of Prostate Cancer. Survivors, including retired Major General Enenche John Enenche, shared powerful testimonies about their battles and recovery.
Medical experts at the event warned that more than 80 percent of Nigerian men present with late stage prostate cancer, largely due to fear, silence, and misinformation. This trend, they said, significantly reduces chances of survival.
Enenche recounted how a personal decision to undergo testing saved his life after years of ignoring symptoms. His diagnosis revealed a high PSA level, but timely intervention and robotic surgery led to full recovery. He credited the expertise of Kingsley Ekwueme, founder of the clinic, for guiding him through an evidence based treatment process.
Other survivors, including Ichie Sylvester Osigwe, Adeshina Alabi, Ben Alozie, Innocent Ihebuzor, and Emmanuel Okolie, also shared experiences of delayed diagnosis, painful symptoms, and eventual recovery after treatment. Many described dramatic improvements in their quality of life following surgery.
Professor Ekwueme described prostate cancer as a silent er in Nigeria, noting that most patients arrive when the disease is already advanced. He stressed that early detection through PSA testing can mean the difference between life and death.
He also debunked common myths, stating that no specific t or lifestyle guarantees prevention, and warned against outdated medical practices. According to him, modern surgical techniques can preserve both dignity and normal bodily functions when properly applied.
Chairman of the clinic, Francis Ogboro, revealed that over 100 patients have been successfully treated within the first year, with many coming from outside Nigeria. He emphasized that patient testimonies remain the strongest awareness tool.
The event ended with a strong message urging men over 40 to prioritize regular health checks and seek timely medical advice.
