President Bola Tinubu has elevated Ibrahim Masari from Senior Special Assistant to Special Adviser on Political Affairs, a more senior role in the presidential hierarchy.

The promotion was announced on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. “As a special adviser, Masari will work alongside Alhaji Yau Darazo, whom Tinubu appointed in July 2023,” Onanuga said.

Masari, a Katsina-born politician and close ally of the President, was first appointed as Senior Special Assistant in 2023 for the same portfolio. He previously served as the All Progressives Congress welfare secretary during Senator Adams Oshiomhole’s tenure as national chairman.

The Special Adviser role entails more strategic responsibilities and direct access to the President. Masari has been influential in APC activities, particularly in the North-West region. Presidential aides in such positions serve at the pleasure of the President and do not require Senate confirmation.
