The Presidency has launched a scathing on Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, over his persistent claim that he won the 2023 presidential election. Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, didn’t mince words in his assessment.
Dare accused Obi of living in a “political fantasy land.” The presidential aide described the Labour Party candidate as someone driven by excessive ambition and political arrogance. “To continue insisting that he won the election after the Supreme Court delivered its final judgment is nothing but clear hallucination,” Dare stated.
But who decides election outcomes in Nigeria? According to Dare, the answer is clear. Only the Nigerian people hold that power through their votes, not individual candidates who feel aggrieved by results. He questioned what authority Obi possessed to unilaterally decide whether to concede defeat.
The confrontation reflects ongoing tensions following the disputed 2023 presidential election. Obi’s refusal to accept the Supreme Court’s final judgment continues to generate controversy in Nigeria’s political landscape. The Presidency insists that Nigerians will again determine the country’s leadership through their votes in future elections, regardless of individual candidates’ claims.
